Capcom's arcade classic squeezed into 64K by Elite: one soldier, grenades, and an army coming down the screen at you. Commando was the second game I ever bought, and the reason was simple economics: the arcade machine ate coins faster than I could earn them, and the C64 version played brilliantly for a one-off price. So it got hammered, evening after evening.

It also came with something the arcade did not have: Rob Hubbard's soundtrack, which I honestly rate above the arcade original. Chris Butler's conversion famously shipped without level 3 because the music needed the memory, a trade I fully support. And the story did not end in 1985. These days I own the real Capcom arcade boards, repaired them chip by chip and rebuilt the full schematics. If you want that side of the story, it is over in the Arcades section.
