Ocean's answer to the Epyx sports games was simpler and more brutal: waggle the joystick left and right as fast as humanly possible, ten events long. The 100 metres, the long jump, the javelin, all of it came down to how fast you could shake a piece of plastic without breaking it.
We broke joysticks on this game. The cheap ones simply did not survive a full decathlon, and it took a few funerals before we learned the lesson every C64 kid eventually learned: you need a TAC-2. Solid metal shaft, microswitches, indestructible. To this day I say the TAC-2 is unbeatable for any game, and I have the white ones on the shelf to prove it ;)
