Palace Software's sword fighter was gloriously direct: two barbarians, sharp steel, and the infamous flying neck chop that ends the fight in one swing, after which a little goblin drop-kicks the loser's head off the screen and drags the body away. Sixteen moves of proper swordplay underneath the gore, but let us be honest about why we all remember it.

The Maria Whittaker box art caused a small moral panic in the UK press, which naturally sent the game straight up the charts. For us it was the two-player duels that mattered: best of five, winner keeps the joystick, loser feeds the goblin ;)
