Gremlin's take on the bat-and-ball revival turned the whole thing sideways: your bat runs up and down the edge of the screen instead of along the bottom, and the game is fast. Properly fast. Bonuses, bricks that fight back, and a big bouncing face that gets in the way like it owns the place.
Arkanoid won the beauty contest, no argument there, but Krakout won on speed and I played it at least as much. Sometimes the rougher game is the moreish one.
